Last week-end was my 7th year in Stockholm after 10 in Berlin. I didn’t celebrate last week that because i completely forgot about it, just thought about it like 30 seconds ago. But the fact that i forgot it is a celebration, and a great one! If you want to know why, ask me, i’ll tell you why!

The museum exhibition SONIC YOUTH ETC. : SENSATIONAL FIX focuses on the multidisciplinary activities of Sonic Youth since the band’s formation in 1981. It features the band’s collaborations with visual artists, filmmakers, designers and musicians, as well as a choice of other works selected by the band. Through the multidisciplinary output of Sonic Youth and related works by other artists in the exhibition, an alternative history of contemporary culture is being uncovered in which the division between ‘high art’ and ‘low art’ is being called into question, while issues are explored such as teenage rebellion, adolescent wanderlust, gender, fame, fashion, sexuality, and religion. The exhibition is initiated and curated by freelance curator Roland Groenenboom in collaboration with the band and will be presented in Bolzano, Italy (from 10 October 2008 to 4 January 2009), and Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Germany (31 January to 26 April 2009). Next up are The Museum of Malmö, Sweden (from May 29 to September 20 2009) and Centro Huarte de Arte Contemporaneo, Navarra/Nafarroa, Spain (October 2009 to January 2010). Further venues are currently in discussion, in Europe, the US and Asia. A complete description of the show can be found here.

Vous voulez rire? Alors lisez cet article. Mais je vous préviens, à défaut de vous dégouter de Sarko, ca risque de vous dégouter des Inrocks pour un temps. Mais bon, on n’est plus dans les 80’s à l’epoque du mensuel (ahh la grande époque, My Bloody ou le Velvet en couv’…), ni dans les 90’s où les Inrocks ont pris un tournant mega-capitaliste après avoir fini par comprendre qu’on peut facilement carotter ses abonnés pourtant si fidèles à l’époque, en leur vendant de la merde en portion hebdomadaire – genre programme télé – imprimé sur du papier genre chiotte en format ben oui… papier toilette. Non, maintenant c’est les années 2000, et la rédaction des Inrocks semble tellement désabusée, aigrie, qu’elle nous impose – au travers d’un portrait (bien morveux craché) de Sarkozy – un populisme primaire, digne de la propagande d’éxtrême droite ou gauche. C’est bourré de haine, de cynisme, d’aigreur… Ca me laisse bien perplexe tout ca.
Ahh mais suis-bête, je suis tombé dans le panneau! C’était bien sûr à prendre au second degré!! Dites-moi que c’est vrai!

De fil en aiguille, a force de surfer et de fouiller… On finit toujours par croiser des profils intéressants, comme cette artiste etudiante, fan de Morrissey, Gainsbourg et F. Hardy, SY, fan de Berlin, dessinatrice ambitieuse, pas franchement satisfaite de son travail à la lire… Moi j’aime bien, des essais de nus superbes, et quand on peut faire une carricature de Gainsbarre comme celle-ci… on reve de pouvoir faire de-meme.

Hey, some label really know how to treat their fans, Matador for example. I just joined the “Buy Early Get Now” offer that includes the stream of the album, extras like downloads, pre-sales for concert tickets etc. and i am waiting peacefully for the mailman to ring and give me The Eternal and an LP live in NYC last summer.
I love the concept, not because it’s a concept, but because it really shows that (some) labels care about their audience in the name of the artist. For those who are interested, here the magic formula for the music industry:

Was ist denn aus meinem beliebten Kollektiv Jazzanova geworden? Was hat nun Universal da getan? Was ist das für eine völlig gefühlslose voll mit zielgruppenlosen Werbemitteln geladenen Webseite, die da gebaut wurde?? Ich bin so enttäuscht. Riecht nach Major und Geld. Schade. Höre mir lieber die alten Sachen an. Hoffentlich kommt Jazzanova zu seinen Roots zurück. Tschüss Universal.
